The Evangelos Pistiolis Foundation is proud to announce a significant contribution to the Swiss School of Archaeology in Greece. This generous donation by Mr. Evangelos Pistiolis and his Foundation, is a testament to our commitment to fostering cultural and scientific collaboration between Greece and Switzerland.
The Swiss School of Archaeology in Greece is the only permanent Swiss archaeological mission outside its national borders. Its aim is to develop cultural relations between Greece and Switzerland, to promote archaeological and historical research in Greece, and to protect and enhance Greek archaeological heritage.
Swiss archaeologists have been excavating in Eretria (Euboea) since 1964, in collaboration with the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. The Swiss School has also conducted research projects in Attica, Aegina, and Anitkythera. The Swiss School supports the next generation of Swiss academics, as numerous professors, researchers, graduates, and students from Swiss universities participate in its projects in Greece.
The Swiss School is financially supported by the Swiss Confederation (via the State Secretary for Formation, Research and Innovation -SEFRI), the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), Swiss Universities, and private donors.
This generous donation from the Evangelos Pistiolis Foundation will be instrumental in the Swiss School of Archaeology’s development in Athens. It will allow the School to play a pivotal role in advancing research, scientific diplomacy, and cultural engagement, enhancing the bilateral relationship between Greece and Switzerland.
