The Evangelos Pistiolis Foundation considers structured reporting an essential component of its institutional responsibility. Annual reporting is not treated as a formal requirement, but as a meaningful process through which the Foundation reflects, evaluates and documents its work.

These reports provide a clear, structured and transparent account of the Foundation’s activities, priorities and development over time.

They do not merely record what has been done.
They explain how and why it has been done.

WHY ANNUAL REPORTS MATTER

Annual reports serve multiple purposes:

WHAT OUR REPORTS INCLUDE

Each annual report is designed to present a comprehensive and structured overview of the Foundation’s work during a given year.

An outline of the Foundation’s priorities and direction during the year, including key areas of focus and any shifts in strategy.

Key Activities and Initiatives

A structured presentation of the initiatives supported or implemented, across all areas of activity:

  • social support,

  • education and scholarships,

  • research and cultural heritage,

  • institutional collaborations.

Each initiative is presented with clarity and context, avoiding unnecessary complexity.

Impact Summary

A concise but meaningful overview of the outcomes achieved during the year, combining:

but also through how that action is recorded, evaluated and shared.

Historical Study and research
of Ancient Times with main focus
on Roman Empire

Due to the passion of its founder for the Roman Empire, the Foundation has a special focus on the Think Big Revolution of the Roman Empire vis-à-vis economic, technological, military and architectural innovations and it aims to shed light on the pioneering thinking behind the organization, management, and sustainability of Rome and its Provinces as well as on architectural design innovations, construction quality and speed, military organization and strategy as well as city planning and design of the Roman Empire.
Since 2015, the Foundation has created its own initiatives and has supported initiatives of others with an aim to further the understanding of Roman economic, technological, and architectural innovations and on the ways in which these innovations have resonated in contemporary practices and thinking and have formed the foundation of the current way of life in so many ways. Highlighting the continuity of certain Roman innovations to the present time as well as today’s use of certain concepts that were created more than 2000 years ago are within the main targets of the Foundation.
During 2023, the Foundation plans a series of initiatives in order to achieve its objective of promoting the historical study and research of Ancient Times with a main focus on the Roman Empire.

The Pistiolis Institute in Rome
(La Casa Greca di Pistiolis)

La casa greca di Pistiolis will be a base for Greek scholars in Rome—a long-standing desideratum of the academic community—but also support international scholars. It will harbor a community of Greek and international scholars in Rome to support research on Roman architecture and archaeology through a fellowship scheme, an annual lecture series as well as thematic workshops. La casa greca di Pistiolis will also provide funding for international archaeological research.
La casa greca di Pistiolis will house and sponsor fellowships on Roman Economy and Technology, on Roman Architecture, Landscape and Urbanism, and other related themes to support early career researchers and established scholars to conduct research for a 9-month residency in Rome.
The annual lecture series will invite international scholars, whose research focuses on the economic and architectural innovations of the Roman Empire, to deliver a series of four lectures while being on a month-long residence in Rome.
The thematic workshops will tackle key questions on the Roman economic organization, management, growth, and longevity as well as on Roman architecture and urbanism, including economic infrastructure, technological advancements, and cultural connectivity.
The Pistiolis Institute shall also house and sponsor:

Fellowships

Fellowships in topics such as
i) Roman Economy and Technology,
ii) Roman Architecture, Landscape and Urbanism and others and will support early career and established scholars, mainly Greek and Swiss nationals, to conduct research for a maximum 9-month residency in Rome.

Annual lecture series

The organization of annual lecture series where established scholars, whose research focuses on the economic and architectural innovations of the Roman Empire, shall deliver a series of four lectures while being on a month-long residence in Rome.

Thematic workshops

The organization of thematic workshops that will tackle key questions on the Roman economic organization, management, and sustainability as well as on Roman architecture and urbanism, including economic infrastructure, technological advancements, and cultural connectivity.

Romasch Language

Lectures and education on the Romasch Language.
Romansch is a Gallo-Romance language spoken predominantly in the Swiss canton of the Grisons (Graubünden) and has been recognized as a national language of Switzerland since 1938, and as an official language in correspondence with Romansh-speaking citizens since 1996, along with German, French, and Italian.
